68 Market Place.

August 1974. Listed Grade II.

Medieval timber framed house with 18th-century brick façade, and 17th- to 18th-century brick and flint at rear. 18th-century panelled room. Home of Miles Corbett (signatory of death warrant of Charles I).
Details from (S1) and informant [1].
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU) 23 January 1980. Information from (S2).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 13 March 2022.

November 1982. Field Observation.
Visted by E. Rose (NAU).
Some of the above details seem to be due to a misunderstanding. There is nothing medieval in this house and no timber frame. The façade of four bays two storeys, chequered brickwork, with door on second bay from north and heavy moulded string course between floors, is called 18th century in (S1) but could be crude late 17th century with windows later replaced in their original spaces. The panelling has been removed and the interior much altered, but the flint and brick rear is not necessarily older than the facade as stated in (S1), and nothing visible seems to be before about 1700. Cellar with access below centre of facade.
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU) 4 November 1982. Information from (S2).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 13 March 2022.
