Summary

This is the site of a medieval windmill, rebuilt as a post mill in 1542, and shown on a map of 1588. The mill was rebuilt as a tower mill in the early 19th century and was demolished in 1881.

Marked on (S1) and probably referred to in lease of 1542 when the dismantled mill was ordered to be rebuilt.
Pulled down in about 1882.

The post mill rebuilt in 1542 is shown on (S1) and this, or a rebuild, is also shown on (S3).
Rebuilt again 1788 and replaced by tower mill in 1824.
Last used in 1879 and actually demolished in May 1881.

(S4) includes a photograph of this mill from c. 1860 and states that the mill was 9 storeys tall and drove 3 pairs of stones. It had patent sails and a gallery around the 5th floor.
