Summary

Extensions to a bungalow here in 1974 uncovered a Roman copper alloy harness loop. This particular example was smaller than others of its type which are frequently found on military sites.

22 January 1974. 0.9m (3ft) deep in digging foundations for bungalow (extension to existing house).
Bronze hooked object 5.5cm long, maximum 2cm wide; hook 3.8cm long. NCM were unable to identify but objects of this sort have been found on Roman military sites and identified as harness loops - usually stouter and larger than this.

Woodward Close situated at grid reference.
Present occupants (1980) cannot remember anyone of the name given having lived there. Several houses have extensions but one on west side of close may be the one in question.
