Summary

In early 1973 a Roman pottery sherd was found in a pipe trench at this location. Fieldwalking around the same time identified a scatter Roman pottery, with four concentrations of material noted. Pieces of medieval and post-medieval pottery were also recovered. Metal-detecting in 2020 recovered medieval coins and a post-medieval jetton.

January-May 1973. Fieldwalking.
Scatter of Roman pottery in four concentrations.
Three sherds grey ware, four sherds black, of varying coarseness.
One sherd grey fabric with yellow glaze, medieval.
Two pieces soft orange fabric, undated.
Fragment of iron slag.
Modern brick.
Also a Roman rim sherd of wide necked jar of black coarse ware.
(S1) in KLM, copy in file.
These reveal most sherds found in May 1973.
Rim sherd (found in January) was dug up in a cable trench.
