Full Description
Jettied timber framed house, plastered over, 16th/17th century. Brick gables and central chimney. North gable wall is of recent brick. Upper windows of original size. Victorian carved brackets under jetty. Modern small shop front. Wymondham Society report a 'Tudor' doorway found and traces of another, and armorial wall paintings.
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU), 13 October 1989.
The revised listing 1994 explains that the building is early 16th century with a rear wing of 17th century date which has fossilised the original external four centred doorway - the Tudor door mentioned above. The wallpaintings are on the north partition wall and cover the studs as well as the plaster; the centre studs have mortises for another four-centred doorway. Sunk quadrant moulded bridging beam in south room. Roof of expanded principal studs bearing arched braces to chamfered tie beams; one pair of crude queen struts. Crosswing roof has two tiers of butt purlins.

Report by Philip Aitkens identified medieval scarf joint and widely spaced timber frame. Large four-centred arch way in rear wall has no provison for a door - it connects front range to former principal wing to rear. See full interim account in (S2).
