Summary

The site of the watermill is marked here on a map dating to about 1570. This may have been the building that was rebuilt in 1714 and 1798 and that burnt down in 1916. The surviving mill house dates to 1795, although it incorporates earlier brickwork. It is built of colourwashed brick and has a pantile roof. Late 18th century mill house survives. Information from [1]. E. Rose (NAU), 24 March 1980. In NIAS files are (S1) of the mill before and during the fire. It was weatherboarded above a brick ground floor. There was also a steam engine here, of which the footings remain. Marked on (S2). See (S3) for details of mill house, dated to 1795 but stated to have an internal wall of 17th century brick. E. Rose (NLA), 16 November 1998.
