A pillbox dating to World War Two is visible on 1952 RAF aerial photographs (S1). It measures 5m across and the walls are 1m thick. It appears to be slightly dug into the side of the slope and has lost its roof.
S. Massey (NMP), 20 March 2005.

April 2004.
No trace of this was found, only two overgrown earthwork trenches or gullies with a wooden lintel to a buried chamber. The structure may have been buried in coastal defensive works, but might have been missed in the long grass.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 April 2004.

December 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Land-based survey; Cley, Salthouse and Kelling fresh-marshes, Context 8:
Second World War site identified, including concrete structure that may be NHER 16006.
See assessment report (S3) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
P. Watkins (HES), 1 July 2015. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 20 July 2019.

Quite remarkably, (S2) shows a rectangle on this spot – apparently a small building with an attached courtyard like an animal stall. The pillbox may have been disguised inside this.
E. Rose (NLA), 14 February 2007.
