Full Description
6 and 19 July and 2 August 1977. Cropmarks.
NAU air photography (S1).
Cropmark of an apparent henge type feature with entrance to south-west set amidst complex of linear features and to north-west of two rectangular enclosures at 455 931.
D. Edwards (NAU) 23 May 1980.
The henge type feature is almost certainly a mill mound. See name Mill Hill to north-west.
A. Lawson (NAU) 23 February 1981.
Probable cause - geology and not human agency.
D. Edwards (NAU) 18 December 1980.
However the late H Apling records as site of a 'sunk' postmill.
E. Rose (NAU) 29 January 1982.
The central grid reference for the site has been altered from TM 4543 9332 to TM 4543 9331.
September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of post medieval post mill are visible on aerial photographs on ‘Mill Hill’, Aldeby (S2). The post mill is visible as a sub-circular ring ditch, 26m external diameter, with a central slot or T-shaped pit, which would have held the post foundations. The external ditches are up to 5m wide and have three clear causeways. This postmill is centred on TM 4543 9331 and is located within an area of rectilinear fields and enclosures (NHER 45026).
S. Massey (NMP), 01 September 2006.
