August to September 1999. Excavation.
Excavation of area of proposed A12 Hopton Roundabout due to presence of ring ditch known from aerial photographs (now recorded as NHER 49184). However this was not seen and must lay outside area to west. A small pit contained Early Saxon and Roman pottery. A series of large intercutting ?gravel quarry pits were undated (possibly medieval). A series of small ditches representing at least two phases of field boundaries were post medieval in date. At southern end of site a large pond was revealed by test excavation (although the infilling of the pond can be seen on aerial photographs of building of A12 in 1970s. (Aerial photographs reference TM 526999). Two larger ditches were also excavated, and probably both of post medieval date.
