Summary

A post medieval flint and brick cottage, with stepped gables and decorative brickwork, which was obviously part of a much larger building.

Map

May 1980. Roughton village, Felbrigg parish.
Cottage revealed in demolishing ivy bush.
Flint and brick. Obviously once part of a larger building.
East gable (to street) stepped, high as for thatch (roof now tiled) but west gable does not rise above roofline.
In east gable two blocked small windows side by side on upper level with moulded brick jambs, and hoodmoulds.
Below, a heart shaped brick pattern.
Large brick chimney behind gable.
In north wall (under recent cartshed) windows with oak mullions.
South side shows roof supports and cornice in brick added when roof renewed.
Also here on lower storey a window with brick hoodmould.
Under restoration.
