Summary

This 'Priest's House' is marked on Dugdale's map of the Fens created in 1662. The house was demolished in the 19th century but records suggests that it was a two roomed clay structure built on a raft of osiers. The hearthstone had 'two and a half crosses' on it which suggests it may have been a reused medieval altar. A silver coin dated to 1397 was found beneath the hearth.

Map

Marked on (S1) as Wools Farm, but on (S2), and (S3) as Priest House.

(S4) records a Mr Legge as telling him around 1900 that he demolished the old house 'seventy years ago' and built
the present one. It was a two roomed clay house erected on rafts of osiers. A silver coin of 1397 (identified by the local squire) was found under the hearthstone, which had two and a half crosses on it. This sounds like a fragment of an altar stone, (though the squire said it was a Roman milestone).
E. Rose (NAU), 7 July 1980.
