NHER 16351 (Find Spot record) - Mesolithic and Neolithic flint working site

May 1980. Stray Find.
A variety of struck flints were recovered on the allotment, north of the brook. This land was formerly pasture and had been ploughed before cultivation. The finds were on the surface of the soil and in the topsoil. Flints identified as Mesolithic included a small, fine point, a large point, and two finely worked flakes. Two small blades may though be later in date. A long, multi-faceted blade was originally identified as Neolithic, although as it appears to come from a carefully prepared bipolar core it is unlikely to be later than Early Neolithic in date (and could be much earlier). A flake with a large deliberately formed notch was tentatively identified as an unfinished Neolithic arrowhead.

Early 1981. Stray Find.
Further finds from the allotments:
3 prehistoric flints including 1 flint blade and 2 flakes (one retouched, one pointed).
3 ?prehistoric pot boilers.
1 post-medieval black basalt ware pottery sherd.
1 post-medieval clay pipe stem (mid/late 19th century).

Summer 1981. Stray Find.
A large flint assemblage of interesting form was recovered from the allotments. The assemblage includes some definite Mesolithic types (a finely-worked blade, microliths, and microlithic waste), but the majority are larger and coarser, perhaps Neolithic though no definite Neolithic types were identified. The larger pieces are mostly of crude material, with much waste. Three potboilers were also recovered.
