Full Description
15 August 1980. Cottages at south end of row of clay lump houses.
Examination prior to demolition, by E. Rose (NAU) and Broadland District Council, revealed that the upper façade of the southernmost cottage consisted of two arched braces supporting the top beam, with midwall studding. The lower part of the wall had been underbuilt in brick. The rear wall was of clay lump with some studding.
The roof had been renewed but bases of old rafters and supports remained in a planked loft floor.
Conclusion was that the cottage had been rebuilt in about 1800 utilising a 17th century braced beam from an earlier building.
Next pair of cottage to north seemed all clay lump.
Final pair all brick, dating to about 1830.
E. Rose (NAU), 15 August 1980.
4 December 1980.
Grid reference corrected when new building taking place on site. Old timbers said to have been salvaged by Norfolk County Council.
