Map

Mound described as Bronze Age barrow, but probably a former beacon.
Levelled in 1971.
Written on KLM map.
E. Rose (NAU), 20 August 1980.

July 2001. Norfolk NMP.
The upstanding earthwork element of the site appears as a sub-rounded mound (S1) although the cropmark suggests that this is one part of a larger sub-rounded or sub-oval mound (S1). The upstanding part of the site has a diameter of 26m, while the larger cropmark feature has a maximum length of 84m. The amorphous profile of the larger feature suggests it may be a saltern mound. The round mound may simply be the surviving southern part of this feature, or was possibly re-used for another activity utilising the existent higher elevation of the saltern mound. The saltern may date from the Late Iron Age, Roman or medieval periods, although the latter seems most plausible.
M. Brennand (NMP), 18 July 2001.
