Summary

Metal-detecting between 2005 and 2012 recovered prehistoric worked flints including a Neolithic part polished flint axehead; Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery; medieval coins; post-medieval tokens; medieval and post-medieval jettons and Bronze Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval, post-medieval and undatable metal objects. The metal finds include a possible Bronze Age flat axehead or palstave; a Roman finger-ring; a possible Late Saxon weight; medieval dress accessories, pot mends and a candlestick fragment; a medieval/post-medieval bell fragment, purse frame and weight; post-medieval dress accessories, a furniture fitting, spur fragment, harness mounts, weights and sword belt fittings and undatable casting waste.

September 1980. Stray find.
South-east of council houses on site of removed field boundary. Surface find on arable field.
Butt end of part polished flint axe in grey flint. Maximum thickness 25mm. Polishing between scars on both surfaces.

1 ?Bronze Age ?axe head fragment (?butt end of flat or palstaved axe), (S2).
2 Roman pottery sherds (Greyware), 1 ?finger ring fragment.
1 ?Middle Saxon pottery sherd.
1 Middle Saxon pottery sherd (pimpley Ipswich).
2 Late Saxon pottery sherds (Thetford).
1 medieval coin, 1 jetton, 9 pottery sherds (7unglazed, 2 glazed grimston), 1 lead pot mend, 1 lead weight and 1 buckle plate.
1 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd (LMT) and 1 vessel repair framgnet (rivet or plug).
1 post-medieval token, 2 jettons, 1 button, 1 ?strap end, 1 bell fragment and 1 ring fragment.
1 Undatable lump of casting waste.
