8 December 1987. Fenland fieldwalking. Young cereal, weathered ground but much beet waste which restricts visibility.
Context 2. Field centre as grid reference above.
Odd fragments Roman sherds. NDH AB.
Context 3 at 5544 0030.
Concentration of sparse Roman pottery. Some bone fragments and slate fragments. Moderate quantities of small brick lumps (contemporary?) with odd oyster shell. On north side of Fen Causeway roddon. Set in dark soil. 75m east-to-west x 40m north-to-south approximately at 1.3m OD. NDH 3.

The course of the Roman canal postulated by R. Silvester (NAU) runs east-to-west along the south side of Context 2, underlying Context 3, on north side of line of Fen Causeway as marked by Ordnance Survey.
