Civil Parish WYMONDHAM, SOUTH NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

November 1980. Corner of Church Street and alley to Abbey Meadows. Found in digging pipe trench at depth 1-2m.
Handle and part of neck of green glazed jug. Late medieval (late 14th or later), probably not Grimston Ware because of
large red inclusions in fabric. Handle is strap with stabbing and two thumb impressions. Depression on interior of neck where pressure in applying handle has pierced clay.
Identified by A. Rogerson (NAU), 11 November 1980.
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU), 11 November 1980.

However W. Milligan believes this is Grimston Ware and states the mark behind the handle is a plug to hold it on.
