NHER 16798 (Monument record) - Site of an unusual wooden pillbox

Summary

This sandbagged wooden plank lean to World War Two pillbox was attached to a house. The gun slits between the planks were protected by large concrete hoods. The position overlooked and defended the nearby bridge. It has now been demolished.

In form a wooden penthouse reinforced with sandbags and with gunslits.

Correct grid reference obtained by E. Rose (NAU). In form this is a wooden superstructure to a flint and brick pre existing yard wall. Its gun slits though in the planks are capped by huge concrete hoods. It commands the bridge and is a very interesting survival.
