Summary

A World War Two Vickers Machine Gun pillbox has been recorded as an extant structure to the south of Wayford Bridge. It has been visited on the ground, is visible on aerial photographs and is depicted by modern Ordnance Survey mapping. It forms part of a larger group of World War Two anti-invasion defences in the vicinity of the bridge, which as a river crossing was clearly a location of strategic importance.

Contrary to the description given above it is rectangular in plan, although its two front corners are chamfered. A substantial blast wall is visible on its western side. It was sited to face northwards towards Wayford Bridge.
