Summary

A World War Two Type 22 pillbox is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs, is recorded by documentary sources and has been visited on the ground. It formed part of the outer defences for the ‘nodal point’ of Acle. It may once have had a weapons mount or similar feature on its roof.

NMP mapping has led to the alteration of the central grid reference of the site from TG 4066 1061 to TG 4066 1062.
The World War Two Type 22 pillbox described above is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S3)-(S6). It has also been recorded as part of the Defence Areas Project (S7), and is depicted by modern Ordnance Survey 1:2500 mapping. On aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S3) a possible weapons mount (perhaps for an anti aircraft or anti tank weapon) or similar feature is visible on its roof.
