Summary

The cropmarks of a possible Roman enclosure are visible on a number of aerial photographs of this area. Metal detecting on this site between 1986 and 2019 has also recovered prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery sherds; and a number of objects of the Roman to post medieval periods was well as a Bronze Age awl and an Iron Age stud.

Cropmarks of three enclosures: See 6 inch overlay.

Grid reference [TF 7005 3345] = rectangular enclosure with possible entrance to northwest.
Grid reference [TF 7035 3332] = Sub-rectangular enclosure with possible entrance to northeast and a larger three sided enclosure surrounding it. On Department of the Environment slides a rectangular corner (of another enclosure?) lies immediately to the east of this sub-rectangular enclosure, one side of this corner forms one of the sides of the three sided enclosure.
Grid reference [TF 7039 3350] = Complex sub-rectangular enclosure with linear marks and sub-divisions inside.

However the latter enclosure (northern) is very faint and debateable.

January 1946. Context 1. RAF aerial photograph shows subdivided enclosure to north of previously noted trapezoidal enclosure. This is larger, also trapezoidal with internal 'grid' and smaller sub-rectangular enclosure in south. Maximum dimensions of outer enclosure 170m x 180m, inner is 40 x 50m maximum.

March 2000. Metal detecting.
Found around 50 metres north of square crop mark enclosure at grid reference [4].
Roman copper alloy finger ring with narrow hoop which widens under a pointed oval and raised bezel, now empty of setting but containing remains of adhesive. 2nd or 3rd century. Henig type VII. (S1)
