Summary

A circular enclosure is visible as a soilmark on aerial photographs. Although it may date to the Bronze Age, the enclosure is far more likely to be associated with post medieval quarrying.

January 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of an apparent double ring ditch with some form of pit in the centre can be clearly seen on NLA oblique aerial photographs from 1977 (S1) and 1980 (S2). The site is centred on NGR TG0238 4287 and is about 23m across. There are possibly also two parallel linear features to the southeast of the site appearing to run from the outer ring heading southeast.
These features are of uncertain date and origin. However, after consideration of the available photography it seems probable that this site is more likely to be the remains of a chalk pit or quarry, rather than anything of more archaeological significance. It has therefore not been mapped.
H. Clare (NMP), 3 February 2003.
