1978 or 1979. Surface find.
Chalk pebble engraved with mammoth.
The object seems unlikely to be of Palaeolithic date.
1. Because its surface shows no sign of having been dissolved away by percolating rainwater, and
2. Because mammoth is anatomically inacurrate.
An opinion shared by J. Wymer (NAU) and two others to all of whom object was shown. Seen by [1] and [2]. See letter from latter (S1) and photograph (S2).
