Summary

This site is at the northern end of the green, and is surrounded by a large ditched enclosure. Fieldwalking has recovered two concentrations of medieval and post medieval pottery from within the enclosure, suggesting that this was an area of medieval settlement.

(S1) explains that she means the ditch that encloses the entire field within which this find was made. Here she only says that its arms are 'as wide as a moat' and implies it is an area of early settlement taken out of the green. The size would certainly be huge for a moat, and a drainage ditch aound a late medieval settlement would seem more probable.
E. Rose (NAU) 5 June 1985.
