Full Description
1 August 1977. NAU aerial photography.
Cropmark of one ring ditch.
D. Edwards (NAU) 18 March 1981.
The central grid reference for this site has been altered from TM 0284 9594 to TM 0286 9596.
January 2013. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a possible ring ditch, potentially represent the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, may be visible on aerial photographs (S1). The site is centred on TM 0286 9596. However there is some uncertainty over the archaeological significance and the origin of these cropmarks. Consultation of the vertical aerial photographs could not discount or clarify the nature of the cropmarks visible on the aerial photograph (S1). Therefore the cropmarks have been mapped, but it must be noted that there is potential that this apparent ring, located alongside the edge of a field, may relate to a tractor turning circle or some other agricultural activity. That said the landscape setting of the site on a valleyside is broadly consistent with that of a Bronze Age round barrow and another more convincing ring ditch (NHER 12803) is located on the opposite side, approximately 1.75km to the west.
S. Horlock (NMP), 31 January 2013.
