June 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of six ring ditches of probable Bronze Age date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). This group of cropmarks is centred on TG 3173 0069. The southernmost ring ditch in this group is a double ring ditch. It is slightly sub-circular in plan with a 20m diameter narrow outer ditch and a 14.5m inner ditch. Central to the group are two ring ditches each with a 17m diameter narrow ditch. To the north-north-east of these two ring ditches an incomplete possible ring ditch cropmark is faintly visible. It forms an alignment with the two equal sized ring ditches and has a 13.5m diameter. To the west of the main group is a second faint possible ring ditch. This is also incomplete and has a narrow ditch with a diameter of 11m. The sixth ring ditch is located to the east of the main group. It has a diameter of just over 3m. It is likely that the larger ring ditches in this group are of Bronze Age date and that they relate to round barrows. The smaller ring ditch could also be of Bronze Age date, although they are sometimes associated with Anglo-Saxon graves. The Bronze Age barrows form part of a dispersed barrow cemetery (NHER 49492).
