5 August 1977. NAU air photography.
Cropmarks of possible foundations of buildings.
D. Edwards (NAU),16 March 1981.

February 2001. NMP.
A number of linear cropmarks are visible around TF 786 431 on 1977 aerial photographs (S1), some of which appear as L shaped features. It is possible that these cropmarks may represent possible building foundations. The majority form an east to west band about 100m in length, while there are another two features further north.

The date of the features is impossible to tell from aerial photographs, but their proximity to the Brancaster Roman site may suggest a connection and possible Roman date.
A. Hunt (NMP), 9 February 2001.

April 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The features visible within the crop are extremely confusing as there has been a substantial amount of lodging within the crop and disturbance by agricultural vehicles (S2). Similarly this area represents the boundary between the chalk and a pocket of sands and gravels, which may also be causing some of the cropmark anomalies.

To the north of the area is a small rectangular enclosure (TF 7863 4328), defined by a ditch or wall/bank type structure. The feature is aligned with its long axis in a north to south direction and has a length of 15m and a width of 8m. There appear to be internal features within the enclosure/wall. It is not clear what has caused these cropmarks but this certainly appears to be remains of a building. To the south (TF 7862 4320) are a series of linear features running in approximately north to south and east to west directions. These features are ephemeral and fragmentary but may represent the traces of a system of land division or field system. Within the area are also the possible remains of two small rectilinear features which may represent enclosures or buildings (TF 7862 4321 and TF 7864 34318). The southern area of this field is covered with round and sub rounded features which have the appearance of pits or sunken featured buildings. These may represent extraction pits, but they are more likely to be caused by the geology (pockets of gravel within solution holes).
M. Brennand (NMP), 19 April 2002.
