The cropmark remains of two probable Bronze Age ring ditches and a linear feature/field boundary are clearly visible on both NLA (S1) and Aerial Archaeology Foundation (S2) oblique aerial photography from 1977. The more easterly and larger ring ditch is located at NGR TG0487 4215; it is approximately 45 to 50m in diameter. The smaller and westerly ring ditch is located at TG 0481 4211; it is approximately 30m across.
The linear feature/field boundary is of uncertain date, but it seems likely that it is of at least/around post medieval date. It does not appear on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 1:10560 (S3) or 2nd edition 25 inch (S4) maps, however it does appear to tie up with the fields marked on these map and fits into the current field pattern shown on the present Ordnance Survey map (S5). This would all suggest that it was in existence relatively recently hence the possible post medieval date. This feature runs from NGR TG0481 4224 to TG0484 4207.
H. Clare (NMP), 5 February 2003.
