Summary

Metal detecting here has recovered many Roman, medieval and post medieval metal finds including a Roman Dolphin brooch, medieval and post medieval coins, a medieval composite strap end, and a 14th century circular seal matrix. Cropmarks previously recorded as part of this site are now recorded as NHER 45192.

1996. Metal detecting.
14th century circular seal matrix. Conical hexagonal sectioned handle, lozengiform terminal with circular hole. Stag with cross between antlers (legend associated with St Hubert and St Eustace). IESUS MERCI. See (S1).

1996. Metal detecting.
Medieval composite strap end. Three piece with forked spacer plate. Two rivets at round aperture with groove near concave attachment end. Front plate decorated with incised contour line and pair of chalices placed rim to rim picked out by incised lines on a background of rocker arm ornament. Simple knop with collar. Backplate part missing. Strap was too wide to fit between the spacer plates and as a result the backplate has bulged leaving a ridge.
