Summary

The cropmarks of a road or trackway of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs within Haddiscoe Park. The trackway does not appear to relate the park landscape and in particular does not lead towards Haddiscoe Hall itself. The route would therefore appear to pre-date the establishment of the park, which judging from the historical map evidence would be between 1809 and 1841

The cropmarks of a road or trackway of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs within Haddiscoe Park (S1). The site is centred on TM 4342 9671. The feature is visible as a parched linear cropmark, up to 4m apart, and a narrow ditch. The trackway does not appear to relate the park landscape and in particular does not lead towards Haddiscoe Hall itself. The route would therefore appear to pre-date the establishment of the park, which judging from the historical map evidence would be between 1809 and 1841, as it is marked on the 1841 Haddiscoe Tithe map (S3) and not on the 1809 Haddiscoe Enclosure map (S2).
S. Massey (NMP), 29 June 2007.
