Summary

This late 16th century house is timber framed with a brick gable wall. Architectural evidence suggest that the building was once perhaps longer.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Former farmhouse. 17th century; full-height side extension of c.1980. Two-bay rendered and underbuilt timber frame with one returned brick and flint gable-end and a thatched roof. Two storeys with attic. Later central front door...Row of six bricklined recesses - either nesting boxes or bee boles. Gable end stacks. Six jowled wall posts and one ovolo moulded spine beam. Winding stair to side of each stack; southern stair goes to first floor only. Several original doors and one surviving cock's head hinge. Roof of four principal trusses with butt-purlins and collars."

The bee boles noted above would have housed straw hives known as skeps. They are amongst the small number of surviving Norfolk examples recorded in the 'Bee Boles Register' (S3), although this gives no additional details - the only source of information being the brief mention in (S2).
