Summary

Metal detecting here in 1981 recovered a range of metal objects dating to a variety of archaeological periods. Finds of note included a copy of a Roman coin of Claudius, a Late Saxon bronze disc brooch and a medieval lead seal belonging to Agnes wife of Adam de Bala (or of Adembala).

Full Description

1981. 275m (300yds) southeast of Maltkin Farm. Found with metal detector.
As of Claudius (probably local copy) irregular Minerva, SC.
Antoninianus of Victorinus, VICTORINVS PX(?) PAX AVG. AD 268-70.
Sestertius. 1st, 2nd or early 3rd century.

Late Saxon bronze disc brooch (see for comparison (S1), worn and damaged. Drawings (S2 and S3) in Illustration Library.
Lead 12th-13th century seal, no handle, top edge broken off. S'AGNETIS V'xA DE'BALA'. (The seal of Agnes wife of Adam de Bala; or, of Adembala.)
Bronze buckle 1400-1700.
