Full Description
North of Melton Beck. Field is called Tutt Hill.
28 December 1980. Fieldwalking.
Plain socketed axe found.
Subsequent searching by eye and later metal detecting.
Produced the following finds principally from an area 4m by 8m. The majority of the finds lay along a central line as if spread by the plough from a single spot. Great Melton hoard.
Six plain socketed axes.
Three facetted socketed axes.
Three sword fragments.
One socketed axe with six vertical ribs.
Two cake fragments.
One sheet fragment.
One socketed axe with four vertical ribs containing one bifid razor.
One socketed axe with vertical wings and pellet.
One socketed axe with lateral grooves.
One socketed axe with seven vertical ribs.
One plain socketed axe containing a ring and split pin.
One fragment axe with three horizontal mouldings.
One pegged leaf shaped spearhead.
Two small amorphous lumps.
Four lead lumps.
Miscellanaeous struck flint flakes.
