Summary

Perforated quartzite macehead with 'hour-glass' perforation. These objects are commonly referred to as pebble maces and are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.

August 1981. Stray Find.
Found on surface of stubble field, east of Candle Yards:
1 prehistoric macehead. Subcircular with hourglass perforation. 11.5cm x 9cm, perforation 15mm diameter at narrowest. Surface chipped in antiquity. Brown shiny stone - quartzite (N. 262). See sketch (S1).
