Summary

1981 fragments of Roman pottery were found during the excavation of a pipe trench at this location. Metal-detecting in 2025 recovered a medieval/post-medieval lead candle holder.

July 1981. Stray Find. [1].
Found in digging pipeline 46cm (18 inches) wide.
Pipe trench crossed a considerable area but only at [2], in a band of black sandy soil, were sherds found.
Six Roman sherds including rim of jar with turned over rim, rusticated surface, and blackish grey fabric.
Nine miscellaneous Roman sherds, similar plain coarse ware.
Two sherds including possible rim of everted flat rim fine grey ware dish.
