Full Description
The ring ditches previously recorded under this number are now under NHER 50860. A series of fragmentary ditches previously included in this site are now recorded under NHER 50875.
19 July 1977. NAU aerial photography.
Two ring ditches are visible as cromarks at TG 0321 1770 and TG 9343 1772.
D. Edwards, 17 December 1980.
1980. Aerial Photography.
Additional ditches of a sub-rectangular enclosure and associated linear features are visible in aerial photographs as well as ditches of a trackway (visible from TG 0332 1785 to TG 0328 1758).
D. Edwards (NAU), 17 December 1980.
1980. Aerial Photography.
A third ring ditch and a second trackway to east have been identified. There are also many linear marks.
E. Rose (NAU), 14 July 1982.
15 October 1993. NLA aerial photography.
The field where these features are located is visible, but the cropmarks are not clear. (The ground is waterlogged due to flooding of River Wensum).
H. Clare (NLA), 16 February 2001.
29 June 1995. NLA aerial photography.
The cropmarks are visible and appear more extensive than previously indicated.
A fourth ring ditch can be seen at TG 0327 1765.
H. Clare (NLA), 3 August 2001.
March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a field system of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Castle Farm, Swanton Morley (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 0332 1762. The site consists of at least one phase of medieval to post medieval field boundaries and trackways. A limited number of these boundaries are marked on the 1847 Swanton Morley Tithe map (S4).
Roman finds have been found in the general vicinity of the site (NHER 2993-4) and the site of a possible Roman bridge may have been identified to the immediate north of the site (NHER 2994). It is therefore possible that some of the boundaries and trackways could be Roman in date. Fragmentary cropmarks which may represent pre-medieval features in the area have been recorded under NHER 50875).
S. Massey (NMP), 03 March 2008.
