Summary

The remains of a moated enclosure have been identified here. This moat may indicate that this was the site of Thorpe Manor, a fact supported by documentary evidence. Finds of prehistoric flint tools and post medieval Glazed Red Earthenware have been made outside the moat.

Possible moated site of Thorpe Manor discovered.
Informant says that ponds marked on (S1) look like remains of a moat on the ground.
Documentary references may also indicate this area.

1985
Dissertation reports that informant found two flint tools, one Raeren, one Bellarmine and 18th century Glazed Red Earthenware outside the moat.

North and east arms do not appear to be more than field ditches. West and south however broader and more moat like. All masked by thick scrub and tree cover. Dimensions difficult to assess.
