Summary

This monumental arch was erected in 1846. It consists of gault brick with rendered details and has a plain semicircular main arch and similar pedestrian arches to both sides. It was restored in the 1980s.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Archway forming north entrance to the Victoria estate. 1846. By John Brown. Restored 1980s. Gault brick with rendered details. Plain semicircular rendered arch with mouldings and keyblock. Right and left are plain giant pilasters rising to block entablatures. Projecting cornice above, with a simple balustrade at the top. One similar side pedestrian arch right and left."

Wellington Arch and Wellington Mews Arch are mid-19th-century arches across the southern end of Wellington Street. Condition poor in 1981.

The above entry originally confused the two separate arches. The Wellington Arch is to the north of the Brandon Terrace crossing and is listed as of 1846 by John Brown; the revised listing for Wellington Arch records it as restored in 1980; although the above entry suggests this date may be wrong. The Camperdown Arch, also known as Wellington Mews Arch (NHER 65461), is to the south of the crossroads and is of 1847. Its description is similar to the other but simpler.
