Earthworks of a possible Late Saxon to medieval saltern mound are visible on aerial photographs (S1 to S3). This mound is located at TG 4615 0685. It has an irregular sub oval plan and measures 51m long by 28m wide. Animal bone and pottery of Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval date have previously been recovered from this mound. It is possible that it is a saltern mound of Late Saxon to medieval date. Other possible saltern mounds are located nearby (NHER 42197 and 8, 42445).
J. Albone (NMP), 29 November 2005.
