Summary

The chalk foundations of a building of unknown date were recorded in 1969. Metal-detecting between 1995 and 2017 recovered Roman pottery; Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval and post medieval coins as well as Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon, Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include part of a possible Iron Age armlet; Roman brooches, bracelet fragments and finger-rings; an Early Saxon spearhead, bucket binding and brooches; a Middle Saxon pin; a medieval strap-end, buckle plate, chain link, harness mount, and spindle whorl, a post-medieval hooked dress fastener and a spur terminal. The nature of the Early Saxon finds suggests that this may well be the site of an inhumation cemetery.
