Rare, type 2/20 pillbox, date 1940. Overgrown.
Survey No. D2-40.
D. Walker (NLA), July 1996.
April 2004, Norfolk NMP
(Central grid reference altered from TG1160 4349 to TG 1163 4348, as the site has been extended to the east).
The type 2/20 pillbox and associated military structure were visible on aerial photographs from 1941 (S1). The subrectangular pillbox is visible at TG 1160 4348 and situated to the east is a rectangular structures, measuring 6.5m by 2.5m at TG 1165 4348. It was previously suggested that this pillbox dates to 1940, however the structure cannot clearly be seen on aerial photographs from December 1940 (S2). It is possible that it was camouflaged in 1940, however it is clearly visible in July 1941. By 1946 a line of barbed wire has been constructed along the south of the site (NHER 38565) and the eastern rectangular structure is no longer visible (S3)
