Full Description
6 July 1977. NAU aerial photography.
Cropmarks.
One double, concentric ring ditch.
Compiled by D. Edwards (NAU), 17 March 1981.
Note name Mill Hill to southwest.
New road adjacent to this cropmark is called Windmill Road.
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU), 6 June 1985.
Mill marked on map of 1797 (S1) in this area is very hard to locate, partly owing to road apparently closed when railway built. Note previous instances of mills inaccurately sited by Faden. Also, name Mill Hill appears on this site on (S2) rather than to southwest as on (S3). The mill in question is stated by informant to also be marked on Map of Suffolk (S4) (not seen) and to have been burnt down in 1819. It was replaced by one on site NHER 16392. [1]
See details under NHER 16392 for details.
Cause of fire was ungreased gudgeons.
E. Rose 11 June 1985.
