Summary

Metal detecting here in 1981 recovered two 13th century pointed oval seal dies and a medieval English jetton. One seal die was decorated with a fleur-de-lys and the other with a bud. The front of the jetton depicted a lion guardant within a tressure.

1981. Field south of Joe Blunt's Lane. Found with metal detector.
Two 13th century pointed oval seal dies.
1. Broken loop on edge. Device: a fleur de lys. Legend: ?SIGIL'M SCI LIE (Seal of Holy Lily?).
2. Stump for holding on reverse at top. Devise: bud? Legend: S'MARGARETTE 'STA/YO/.
Medieval English jetton. Obverse: lion guardant within tressure. Border of X separated by pellets. See for comparison Berry type 5E (Edward II). Reverse: central quatrefoil with foliage springing from it. Border: crowns alternating with rosettes.
