Summary

In 1975 a Roman sestertius of Philip I, dating to the 3rd century AD, was found by a dog digging on Barnham Cross Common.

In addition, a number of poorly located finds have also been recovered from across the Common and are recorded under NHER 5797 and NHER 65750. Those finds include at least one Palaeolithic handaxe; Mesolithic, Neolithic and Beaker period flint implements; Roman pottery and a Late Saxon or medieval iron spearhead.

Sestertius of Philip I, 3rd century AD.
Reverse: (SAECVLVM) NOVVM, Roma seated in temple of eight columns. Retained by finder (name not given).
