Summary

Metal detecting in 1992 recovered a medieval steelyard weight decorated with three coats of arms.

January 1982. Metal detecting.
On river bank under Hellesdon Bridge. Not dredged here for 15 years. At 30cm (1 foot) depth.
Steelyard weight about 1kg (2 1/4 pounds) complete with three sets of arms.
1. Lion rampant.
2. Leopards of England.
3. Double headed eagle.
Dates therefore to after 1257.
Border of triangles above shields, each alternate one is hatched. Loop shows signs of wear.
