Full Description
1981-82. Across parish boundary. On field surface after harvesting, and in ditch. Fieldwalking.
Early medieval rim, medieval rim with lip.
Green glazed Grimston jug handle.
Late medieval/Transitional base and two sherds.
Roman grey, Samian and colour coated ware mostly 3rd/4th century. Rim and two body sherds possibly overfired?
Form 33 rim; central Gaul; 2nd century.
Mayen lava fragment.
Several erratics.
Much iron slag.
Identified by M. Darling, 9 September 1981.

1983. Further fieldwalking finds.
Roman sherds; 4th century colour coated.
Four Samian sherds; AD 120 to 200.
Base Colchester colour coated beaker 3rd century.
Grey wares 2nd to 3rd century.
Coin, As 1st or 2nd century.
Medieval sherds - two green glazed Grimston.
Two late medieval/transitional sherds.
Glazed tile fragment.
Post medieval sherds.
E. B. Green's (NCM) notes on record card include quern fragment, pudding stone (i.e. Hertfordshire pudding stone, Roman). Also, attached a rubbing or rubbings of samian stamp and a map marked by finder showing finds are from Sustead parish, and a letter.
