Full Description
1964? Pre 1980. From a house in Bridewell Street?
Screen, wooden, found used as backing for plaster. Figures of carved saints etc and ornamental carvings set in two
registers. Some figures have crosses removed - from a church and defaced at Reformation? Or a later assembly of original panels?
Information from S. Turner (NCM) and (S1).
Original findspot given only as 'house in Walsingham' by NCM but investigations suggest it came from a house in Bridewell Street, Little Walsingham (around TF 934 369) though exact house not yet found.
E. Rose (NAU), 26 March 1982.
St Peter Hungate church museum guide states it was found 'built into a cottage' in 1964.
E. Rose (NAU), 30 November 1987.
May 1997.
(S2) checked by A. Rogerson (NLA). It states only that the carved panels were found recently 'in the wall of an old house at Walsingham, Norfolk' completely covered with plaster. It dates them as 17th century Flemish but A. Rogerson (NLA) states the illustration even at that time shows it clearly to be medieval.
E. Rose (NLA), 29 May 1997.
