Full Description
6 August 1980. NAU air photography.
Positive cropmarks.
Linear cropmarks.
S. Norton (NAU) 15 June 1982.
October 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated linear ditches, probably drainage ditches or field boundaries of post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The central grid reference for these cropmarks has been adjusted from TG 4735 1165 to TG 4746 1167. The main cropmark within this group is an L-shaped ditch that extends for 168m between TG 4757 1164 to TG 4740 1166 before turning roughly northwards for a further 54m to TG 4741 1172. A short section of ditch cropmark lies on a parallel alignment further to the east. Although the alignment of these ditches does not correspond to the modern field pattern, it is likely that they are field boundaries or drainage ditches of post medieval date. A third ditch in this group extends for 80m on a roughly west to east alignment between TG 4738 1163 and TG 4746 1164. Its alignment is similar to a modern field boundary to its south and it is likely to be of post medieval date. Two parallel north to south aligned ditch cropmarks were previously recorded under this NHER number at approximately TG 4734 1163. It is possible that these marks have an agricultural origin and they were not mapped as part of the NMP.
