Full Description
11 July 1980. NAU aerial photography.
Cropmark.
Lodged 'positive' cropmark of circular feature/ditch with inturned entrance to south.
Possible indications of central feature.
Possible round barrow remains reused as mill mound?
D. Edwards (NAU) 17 September 1982.
Grid reference corrected (former typographic error).
Site location is TG 364 123 and not as previously stated.
D. Edwards (NAU) 12 October 1982.
The central grid reference of this site has been altered from TG 364 123 to TG 3684 1426. The trackway and other possible enclosure features, previously recorded within this site, are now under NHER 13102.
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a ring ditch, probably the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, are visible on aerial photographs to the southeast of Town Green, South Walsham (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 3651 1231.
The ring ditch is centred on TG 3651 1232 and is slightly irregular in plan, 25m in diameter, with some straight segments within the ditch circumference. A central pit is visible within the ring and this is likely to be the remains of a central grave, rather than the previously suggested post mill pit (see above).
A smaller possible ring ditch has been tentatively identified to the south of the main round barrow and is approximately 8m across (S1).
S. Massey (NMP), 30 May 2007.
