Summary

North Green Farmhouse is a 16th to 17th century plastered timber-frame house of two storeys and an attic, with a steep modern tiled roof with gabled ends. There is a central brick chimney stack, and an exposed timber-framing and blocked moulded mullion six-light window in the interior. The west wing probably dates to the 16th century, built from red brick with a steep roof.

1982. Site visit.
Photograph of interior of upper floor in newspaper report (S1) shows widely spaced studding, arched braces in corners, and blocked windows. All indicate a date of around 1600. However no external evidence of dating. Two storeys, rendered over (but not all exterior seen). 19th century brick wing to west. Large waterfilled pit hard against and surrounding north gable. No evidence it ever formed part of a moat. Shown on OS map (S2) as source of a stream running north.

Listing Description:
C16/17 plastered timber-frame house. Modern tiled steep roof with gabled ends. Two storeys and attic (attic window in end gable). East front blank wall but far right hand, wood mullion/transom casement on first floor and modern casement on ground floor. Central brick chimney stack. Interior: exposed timber-framing and blocked moulded mullion six-light window. Rear (west) wing, probably C16 red brick with steep roof with coped gable end, and new tiles and brick dentil eaves. Two storeys and attic, casnent windows,interior with stop chamfered beams.
